Hospi Safe Sickness
- This policy must be taken out before retirement.
- It can be taken out for spouses and children (whether or not they are covered by the JSIS)
- Enrolment takes place on the basis of a medical questionnaire if the person is within 6 months of retiring (1). For others, a waiting period of 24 months is applicable for expenses linked to pre-existing conditions (2)
- Coverage for life for members of Afiliatys.
- Coverage is worldwide, but subject to a ceiling for expenses incurred outside the EEA (3).
Hospi Safe Sickness concerns hospitalisations in a private room, surgical operations and correlated expenses incurred 2 months prior to the operation and up to 6 months after the operation, if incurred due to sickness BUT NOT DUE TO AN ACCIDENT (including prostheses and medical equipment). Costs of a one-day clinic are covered, as well as care linked to pregnancy.
Members of this insurance will receive 100% of the difference between the amount spent and the JSIS reimbursement. This reimbursement is NOT subject to any ceilings nor to any rule of excessivity. However, JSIS exclusion rules will apply.
For post-operative rehabilitation expenses, the reimbursement cannot be more than 20% of the amount spent.
All costs relating to pregnancy and birth are reimbursed at 100%, regardless of any JSIS ceilings. Children up to age 2 are covered free of charge.
The insurance policy is re-negotiated by Afiliatys every 10 years, with a possible technical revision every 5 years. The premiums are therefore stable until at least 2025.
Coverage can be maintained in the case of a temporary end of contact (interesting for Belgium and surrounding countries).
